Part of the Brighton Festival 2017, The Hum guides users to a variety of locations around the city, each one the focus of interaction between the public and the city’s infrastructure.
Upon arriving at a location users can listen through headphones to a soundtrack/narration describing and embellishing the everyday actions that take place in each particular place. Each narrator presents his or her idiosyncratic narrative that may be: personal, ironic, poetic, humorous or subversive.
The Hum is conceived and directed by Nic Sandiland with music by James Keane. Writers include Wendy Houston, Maria Oshodi, Donald Hutera and Pete Phillips.
The project is supported by Arts Council England, produced by Flexer & Sandiland and is a Brighton Festival Commission.
